APRIL 28TH PRESS CONFERENCE
Gov. Ritter held a news conference on April 28th to unveil a new “Sustainable Main Streets Initiative.” The new effort is being piloted in four communities around the state, including Five Points. The Governor signed an executive order at the news conference to kick off the pilot program, which will provide the four communities with coordinated and intensive resources from a number of state agencies to help them enhance quality of life and sustainability of their downtowns. COMMUNITY SURVEY DEADLINE EXTENDED TO OCTOBER 31ST
The Sustainable Main Streets survey deadline has been extended to October 31st in an effort to reach the project goal of receiving 1,000 surveys. To take the survey, click on the survey icon at the top of this page. To-date, more than 700 community participants have taken the survey.

OCTOBER 21ST CAT MEETING TO PROVIDE FIRST LOOK AT DRAFT PROJECT VISION & GOALS
The next meeting of the Community Advisory Team (CAT) for the Five Points Sustainable Main Streets Initiative will provide the community with a first look at the draft vision and goals for the project. Meeting participants will have the opportunity to revise and comment on ideas to-date.

UNIVERSITY OF COLORADO STUDENTS TO SHOWCASE THEIR IDEAS FOR DEVELOPING THE WELTON STREET MARKETPLACE
Immediately following this month's monthly community meeting, a team of graduate students from the University of Colorado will be presenting their development ideas for the Welton Street Marketplace. The students have been participating in the planning process and will be sharing their ideas with the general community.

FPBD VISITOR CENTER PUTS OUT CALL FOR DESIGNERS & PHOTOGRAPHERS IN PREPARATION FOR UPCOMING GRAND OPENING
The Five Points Business District is putting out a call for local designers and photographers to secure retail items for the upcoming visitor’s center scheduled to open at the beginning of December.
Proposal Due Date: November 15, 2010 @ 10 am
Opportunity:
We are looking for ready to sell, quality products that support the cultural attributes of Five Points and that celebrate the activities, and African American people of the 1920’s 30’s and 40’s. We have a tagline that we would like to see used on the materials “Five Points, The Rhythm of the Rockies”.
An example of an item would be a post card that featured a photo of the Rossonian, or a post card that had a collage of sports heroes from that era such as Jackie Robinson or Jessie Owens.

The next Community Meeting for the Five Points Sustainable Main Streets Initiative will provide the community with a revised version of the vision and goals for the project. Meeting participants will have the opportunity to see the final version of the project ideas, vision, and goals.

SUSTAINABLE MAIN STREETS TEAM SHARES FIVE POINTS WELTON STREET MARKETPLACE VISION & GOALS WITH COMMUNITY (Nov. 18)
More than 85 community members, business owners, and property owners turned out for the final community meeting of the Five Points Sustainable Main Streets planning process. Community members were able to see, hear about, and provide final tweaks to the final version of the vision and recommendations for moving the Welton Street Marketplace forward. The ideas and recommendations were gleaned from a serious of community meetings and specialized focus groups, and a community survey over a seven-month period. The meeting concluded by having community members sign a pledge of agreement and support.
